Factory oil recommendation (Synthetic or Semi)

Just got my 1st free oil change from the dealer and they wanted to put in semi synthetic Dextrose oil and told me that the semi synthetic oil with dextrose is what Chevrolet requires in the LT1 engine.

I told them i wanted fully synthetic Mobil One but I had to pay the difference.

What does this engine really require per Chevrolet?

It requires oil that is 5W-30 weight, and meets Dexos1 requirements. Some Semi-synthentics, or "synthetic blend" meet this requirement.

GM's AC Delco "Dexos" oils meet the requirement.

Per owners manual for 2017 Camaro

Page 346:

Engine oil meeting the dexos1™ specification of the proper SAE viscosity
grade. ACDelco dexos1 Synthetic Blend is recommended. See Engine
Oil > 264.

Page 264:

Engine Oil
To ensure proper engine performance and long life, careful attention must be paid to engine oil. Following these simple, but important steps will help protect your investment:
. Use engine oil approved to the proper specification and of the proper viscosity grade. See “Selecting the Right Engine Oil” in this section.
. Check the engine oil level regularly and maintain the proper oil level. See “Checking Engine Oil” and “When to Add Engine Oil” in this section.
. Change the engine oil at the appropriate time. See Engine Oil Life System > 266.
. Always dispose of engine oil properly. See “What to Do with Used Oil” in this section.
Checking Engine Oil It is a good idea to check the engine oil level at each fuel fill. In order to get an accurate reading, the vehicle must be on level ground. The engine oil dipstick handle is a loop. See Engine Compartment Overview
> 259 for the location of the engine oil dipstick.

Obtaining an accurate oil level reading is essential:
1. If the engine has been running recently, turn off the engine and allow several minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan. Checking the oil level too soon after engine shutoff will not provide an accurate oil level
reading. { Warning The engine oil dipstick handle may be hot; it could burn you. Use a towel or glove to touch the dipstick handle. Chevrolet Camaro Owner Manual (GMNA-Localizing-U.S./Canada/Mexico- 9804281) - 2017 - crc - 4/25/16 Vehicle Care 265
2. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a clean paper towel or cloth, then push it back in all the way. Remove it again, keeping the tip down, and check the level.

When to Add Engine Oil
LTG 2.0L L4 Engine/LGX 3.6L V6 Engine Shown, 6.2L V8 Engine Similar

If the oil is below the cross-hatched area at the tip of the dipstick, add
1 L (1 qt) of the recommended oil and then recheck the level. See “Selecting the Right Engine Oil” in this section for an explanation of what kind of oil to use. For engine oil crankcase capacity, see Capacities and Specifications > 351.

Caution Do not add too much oil. Oil levels above or below the acceptable operating range shown on the dipstick are harmful to the engine. If you find that you have an oil level above the operating range, i.e., the engine has so much oil that the oil level gets above the cross-hatched area that shows the proper operating range, the engine could be damaged. You should drain
out the excess oil or limit driving of the vehicle and seek a service professional to remove the excess amount of oil.

See Engine Compartment Overview > 259 for the location of the engine
oil fill cap.
Add enough oil to put the level somewhere in the proper operating range. Push the dipstick all the way back in when through.

Selecting the Right Engine Oil
Selecting the right engine oil depends on both the proper oil specification and viscosity grade.
See Recommended Fluids and Lubricants > 346.

Specification
Ask for and use engine oils that meet the dexos1™ specification. Engine oils that have been approved by GM as meeting the dexos1 specification are marked with the dexos1 approved logo. See www.gmdexos.com.

That's a different question than your first post. GM says synthetic blend meeting dexos 1 specifications.
Is using full synthetic even better than a blend...I doubt it. The way I look at it is this: if it comes down to a warranty claim, will I be able to say I was following GM recommendations? That said, I use full synthetic. LOL! I know that's zero help to you but the manual specifies synthetic blend.

There is no “warranty police” for oil.....As long as it’s in the crankcase and it’s liquid, they don’t give a shit at all…In order to prove that it’s the wrong oil they would have to do a Blackstone Test , and warranty won’t pay for that.

Dexos certified 5W-30 will work. Any Dexos oil.

I can't find anywhere that says Mobil One 5W-30 Fully Synthetic oil is Dexos compatible.

My guess is that it should meet or exceed the blend.

I use the Royal Purple Dexo's Full Synthetic. I drag race a lot and wanted the good stuff.

Say what??? It's on the front of the bottle, lower right corner (the 5-gallon jug). When I purchased mine (I use Mobil 1 full syn as well) I verified the dexos specification. You're good.

I know the "high mileage" variant doesn't have the Dexos label on the bottle.

Apparently the high mileage variant did not make the cut for dexos specifications.

GM has superseded semi synthetic to full synthetic, so no issues running full synthetic.
