What are you trying to do once you cut the hole?

Also my advice, don't.

The ZL1 tank is different from the SS?

Surely that's not the case? Perhaps it is....

I know this was popular to do on the 5th gen but I do not believe the 6th gen fuel pump is located in a way you can cut a access door.

The ZL1, ZL1 1LE & 1SS / 2SS 1LE all have a higher flow in-tank (sometimes called low pressure side) fuel pump than the other V8 cars.

If doing any kind of mods short of tune & exhaust you have to find a way to feed more fuel to the High Pressure pump

Are you sure about this? I have read from numerous places the ZL1 and 1LE have the bigger pump but not the SS. Everything I have read is the SS will need the bigger pump once going boosted.

Umbriel is correct the ZL1 and the 1LE variants have a bigger fuel pump in the tank compared to the regular SS versions.

Don't do it. While you have to drop the exhaust and driveshaft it is still not a bad job at all. Maybe 3 easy hours start to finish. The hardest part, if you have large hands, is reconnecting all the tubes and connectors inside the pump.

Once it comes time to do my pump swap my mechanic will have the go ahead to cut an access panel if it makes it easier. Was done to my 4th gen and made swapping pumps WAY easier and we swapped pumps numerous times throughout the builds I had done.
