Arrow ZLE Gearing Change ???

Like I am sure many of you also feel... I am tired of the lack of a proper 6th gear OD for freeway cruising. Has anyone re-geared there trans, or changed the diff ration to compensate?

80mph @ 2,600 rpm is getting old :(

You could put a non-1le trans in, 6th is overdrive.
With the power you have the lower ratios will probably work out better anyways.
I imagine 1st is completely un-useable.

I'd actually like a shorter 1-4, and longer 6th. Like 10%-15% shorter maybe, so I can shift more in the canyons.

I've looked around but nobody makes different gearing for the Camaro.

Hmmm... makes sense... but at my power level, I would be OK with every gear being taller... Thats why I was thinking a ring and pinion swap would be cheaper than a built trans.

Did you check out the 9" differential swap? There may be a ring/pinion gear ratio that suits your needs. Need a big wallet.....

This was the compromise I considered when I bought the A10, at 80 mph I do 1,900 rpm. I wanted to be able to tour with it and I have. Still the 6 sp would has been nice. I agree try a taller tire it would help some.

I wonder if a TR6070 would swap into a 6th gen. You could put in an aggressive ring and pinion ratio "4:10-4:56" and still have 7th gear for the highway.

Doesn't fit, iirc someone asked Al O. a while back.

Was discussed here quite a bit. Consensus was that it doesn't fit.

I love the gearing of the ZLE! That 6th gear was optimized for the Nurburgring. It goes like a bat out of hell even in 6th gear.

It was my understanding that swapping transmissions was a no go due to computer issues. I wanted to put a ZLE M6 in my SLE and was told that it wouldn't work electronically.

I agree 100%... Love how hard it pulls in 6th. But I would be happy downshifting to 5th for some pull, and lugging 6th closer to 1,800 rpm at 80mph.

I think you may be under the impression that the ZLE is a wide ratio trans. It’s the opposite. 1st gear is far taller than a standard ZL1. It has a specific close ratio box for road racing. Gears are tightened up including both overdrive gears (5th and 6th). Coming out of a wide ratio trans, I absolutely love this box. I’ve never had a manual trans that works as good as the ZLE box and the gearing is awesome. I do understand the grass is always greener on the other side. I was on the other side for twenty years, lol. Perfect trans inmho.
