My camaro was damaged getting a oil change ,thoughts?

I had my oil change this morning but later got a text their was a accident.
Come to find out the mechanic used a floor jack and while under the car the floor jack slipped and the car fell on him.

When I got their the owner of the shop told me me that the aftermarket jacking pucks were the cause.
I asked him did his guy use safety stands he said he didn't know he wasn't their when it happened.

Then proceeds to tell me he was going to take my car to a guy he knows to fix the car it's only cosmetic .😒.
Which I tell him uh no thanks it's going to the dealership . Im worried their's is alot of damage I hope they can repair it.

Sounds like a nightmare. Was the mechanic harmed? I can't imagine being under the car and having it fall on me.

Did you report it to your insurance?

I love my pucks they protect the car, never any problem. I watch where the puck hits the jack and have car where it can't roll. He did something wrong, sorry for both of you.

Why wasn't a lift used? Who are you taking your car to that rolls on the ground?

They are already setting you up for liability. I would involve insurance immediately, especially if they will claim medical costs.

What's equally likely is this damage occurred when they tried to jack up the car and the rest of the story is a fabrication. The damage isn't where the jacking points are, it's too far forward.

All a bit suspicious. As pointed out, no one jacks a car by the fender.

I would agree with being suspicious of "I'll take it to a guy I know......"

You need a repair you can count on. The "I know a guy" can likely get it looking great on the outside, but it's just not clear what else was done underneath. And the fender appears to be pretty well folded over.

No clear recommendation as I've not been through it, but you could try a comprehensive claim on your insurance and try to get your deductible back later.

Sorry for this. Not fun.

But if they offer to have it repaired to your satisfaction and you know where his "I know a guy" is, maybe you'd be ok.

Good luck

I would concentrate on the damage and that you want it fixed.
Hopefully you did not specify in writing anywhere, "shop to use owner-provided pucks."
I agree with keep_hope that they probably tried to jack the car and it slipped off while jacking. I'm not a lawyer, but I would expect you would not have liability unless you provided equipment for them to use and gave specific instructions. That type of logic could also get them off the hook for reimbursing you for the repair.

Thank you to everyone that posed up. I was so upset yesterday I needed to sleep on this overnight.
This was was not done at a chevy dealership.
I will be contacting my insurance to file a claim.

After reading everyone's comments I agree something is suspicious.

I have a feeling no one was under the car when it fell off the floor jack. I looked for blood and none is under the car or on the ground where the oil was changed.

Then their is how the damage has such a defined impression of the jack, if a person was under the car when it fell ,his body would of taken more of the brunt of the damage being taller than a low profile floor jack is.

I think his guy jacked the car wrong and it fell on the jack ONLY.
The owner was so Blaise only mentions he guy once that car fell on him and didn't say
how he was.

He was focused on how "dangerous " the pucks are.
I reminded him I NEVER said that they HAD to use them.
(I was wondering why not use one of the 3 lifts they have but it'was to late)

But I did ask why were safety stands not used 🤔
He was quick to say he wasn't thier....
If something is dangerous commonsense is not to use it. But I guess 🤷.

I don't blame the maker of the jack pucks I blame the person using them incorrectly.

Thank you all for the support I'll post up as get info from the insurance company.

I don't think that was a pad issue. That was user error. What type of shop are you bringing your car to that would use a jack for an oil change?

Also a 3600lbs car falling on you while your under it seems to me like that's at minimum a trip to the ER. I think that's a story to get you to feel sorry for them. Totally fabricated. Camaros sit pretty low and being under both the 5th gen and 6th gen I feel like they would kill me almost instantly if it fell.

Edit: now seeing the picute, the tech looks like he used a half ton jack and didn't look at where the jack was placed. When the vehicle was being lifted it slid.

You need to send them written correspondence, return receipt and regular mail. State the issues, provide photos, tell them how they can fix it, tell them to respond in writing to the letter no later than 10 business days. Do not conduct any more communication by email, telephone or voice. Get this stuff documented. Once people start to figure our there's a paper trail, they start acting right really fast, 99% of the time. They can deny phone and voice communications ever happened, with no record. If they don't do the right thing, you have a lot of the legwork already done to sue their pants off.

The pucks fit in the cup on a floor jack. I use ramps for oil changes. Floor jack for wheel removal.

It almost looks like they used one jack on one side, jacked the car to the max height, then they went to the other side and started jacking that to the max height, and the car rolled off the jack trying to save time. Looking at the puck, it looks like it slid off of it as it wasn't placed correctly. This sucks, I hate seeing anyone have to go through all this. Hopefully you have a good outcome of this.
