Stick with the oil the owners manual says as far as viscosity. Brand name is probably not important.

^Pretty much that.
Honestly, I find Liqui Moly a bit too expensive to really justify the cost, and they have a lot of products that are... too interesting for my taste, to put politely. Personally, I tend to lean to Pennzoil for other cars I had but for my SS 1LE, I kinda have to stick to Mobil1 ESP 0W-40 because of Dexos2. But if you are doing street driving, anything with the right viscosity and certification from big brands will do.

Does anyone find it interesting that there is literally only one oil that that is 0w-40 dexos 2?

The LGX V6 uses 5W-30 Dexos 1 gen 2 oil. There are a lot of choices, unlike the 0W-40. Moly is expensive and the V6 is fine with a cheaper oil.

Kirkland / Costco oil was typically about $25 for 10 quarts (two 5 quart jugs) and that's actually what I've been running in my LT1 motor (SS) with zero issues (the 5W-30 is Dexos1 is fine for street use).

Remember that this is a certification, not a forumalion, and it's "pay to play." In other words, GM's strict requirements are a good thing, but the heavy cost of certification for a limited set of engines that "require it" doesn't make sense for most manufacturers. Additionally, the dexos2 oil is -ONLY- required for track use in some of the models. |

I checked their website, the 5W-30 they recommend for the LGX is API SP compliant and has a dexos 1 gen 3 recommendation (apparently gm will switch from dexos 1 gen 2 that is usually referred to as "dexos2" to these new requirement specs starting September 2022), so I wouldn't worry about running it if I had a V6.
Not particularly cheap, but based on the detailed technical info at that site, it should be fine.

https://www.gmdexos.com/brands/dexos2/index.html To make matters more confusing, the Castrol Edge A3/B4 you find in North America is NOT certified with Dexos2. AFAIK, the variant that is certified with Dexos2 is not sold in North America unless someone manage to import some from other markets. If you are good with 5W-40, Motul has oils that is certified with Dexos2. What you said in the latter half makes sense, and is the argument Amsoil makes for their oil. They meet the certifications, but they don't want to pay for them. People who are willing to buy will buy them anyway. I do horse my car around the track from time to time, so I would have to stick with 0W-40 Dexos2. 5W-30 is fine otherwise for street use only.

Do you change your oil after the track time? If so, you could swap back to 5W-30 dexos1 to head back onto the street. The High Perf Supplement actually discusses changing between the two based on street or track, so that's fully 'supported' in the eyes of GM. |

Guys, OP has a 2016 V6. No high performance supplement at play here, 5W-30 is plenty good for the LGX.

As for the track oil, I don't change oil after each track day as that is pretty excessive. 0W-40 Dexos2 is good for both street and track use. It is a do-it-all oil for those who both DD and track their car.
