Best hood for heat extraction/ high hp/forced induction
Hey guys, my engine bay gets pretty hot. 906whp and procharged and next year i plan on turning things up a little more...Iats are also pretty crazy until meth sprays...Im looking into wrapping my headers and also getting a vented carbon hood.
Anderson composites seems to be the best quality wise and I like a few of them. Any real world experiences with them actually reducing underhood temps? Thanks! |

I know you have an SS, but the ZL1 hood really has some crazy ventilation when optimized!
This mod works better than increasing a ton of drag with the Anderson hood and it reduces front end lift a LOT!!! This is how Pratt & Miller offset the lift and made huge gains in heat extraction within the rules for Pro Racing. Contact Nine Lives Racing for the bolt-on bracket that drops your hood scoop two additional inches to truly vent all the heat!!

Interesting... So my buddy was mentioning the drag increase with a cowl hood and now that is the only thing stopping me...
Im procharged so not sure if clearance is really an issue. I might have to look into this. Down side is I really wanted to go Carbon |

I will send you a set of brackets to test for me and then we will both know... I plan to install the Whipple 3.0L within the next month or so. I just have to finish getting the ZR1 I just bought ready for Petit LeMans and the Queen City event before BAT listing begins!!

BTW - regarding the video: all ZL1s come with CF inserts. The option is exposed CF, but they are all CF.

Even with the PI plates, I think the insert nose MIGHT be high and forward enough that it might clear. I highlighted the areas that contacted the blower lid. At the front, it was the outer edges of the hood panel that contacted the Maggie lid, and at the rear of the panel, the bolts for the hood panel would rub the top of the lid. However - the nose of the insert MIGHT JUST clear with that kind of drop. I'll try to remember to take a picture, from above the hood, to show the relationships between that part. Regarding cooling - you can barely tell from the image of the hood panel that I enlarged the OEM holes. I took the rain guard, outlined it's perimeter, and trimmed the panel just to the inside edge of that trace. I'm never going to use that guard, but I keep it in the car, and would install it if I felt the need, but my car has never nor will ever see the rain, so I trimmed it just enough to keep functionality, in case I'm wrong, lol. I can definitely feel hot air from the fans coming out of the hood where I enlarged the holes. I'm tempted to try lowering that insert if there's enough room.
