Apple CarPlay Freezing After iOS 18 Update

2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE
iPhone 12
Wired CarPlay

Immediately after updating iOS 17.7 to 18.0, Carplay connects but after a few seconds the display on the infotainment screen locks up and then the infotainment system reboots.

The Apple forums are horrible. I don't have a valid backup to rollback the update, so my only option is to restore the phone to factory.

Infotainment system software is up to date.

The phone and Carplay work fine on my 2020 Silverado 2500.

Anyone else having this issue or know a solution?

sorry to hear you're having this issue!

Before factory resetting your phone, you might want to try to reset the vehicle first. Should be be much easier to re-setup versus your phone.

I would remove all all the user profiles, and then go through and delete the user data, and reset the vehicle in the infotainment system and see if that helps.

These are the selections you want to try.
  • Reset Vehicle Settings
  • Erase Settings and Personal Data
  • Clear Default Applications

I would also make sure you reset these at least twice in a row, especially the vehicle. I believe the others options may disappear after the first reset.

Then after resetting I would turn the ignition off, and leave the vehicle for at least 2 minutes, 5 is probably better. At which point would then re-setup your vehicle settings, and pair your phone back to the vehicle. Hopefully this helps and avoids need to perform a factory reset on your phone.

Thanks, but I went ahead and bit the bullet by rolling back to 17.6. Works perfectly now. I'll back up the phone after I'm done loading all my junk back on it. Total pain in the ass.
