Just a little history on the hash stripes. Back in the 60s they were used in Le Mans racing to indicate the side of the car the steering wheel was on. The number of stripes indicated the car in the race team (1, 2, 3). Now when you see them taped on like that it is usually an indication that the driver is new to the car and he/she needs a way to line up his "line of sight" with the center of the front wheel. Once he/she is comfortable with the driving dynamics they pull them off. So, the fact you see them in some shots and not others doesn't indicate they are necessarily different cars.

Great info but in a previous post it was stated that the cars have 2 different plate numbers

Oh, I don't doubt there was more than one car, I was just saying you can't use the presence/absence of the orange tape to confirm there was.

It's two different cars.
For what it's worth. I think the one without hashmarks would be a z/28 because I can't hear any kind of blower whine.
The one with hashmarks I can hear the slightest of whine. So that makes me think that one would be a ZL1.

Some screen caps of the different license plates on the cars.

That means nothing, just because they were standard on the 5th gen z28 does not mean they will not make it an option this time around.

Didn't GM say that they couldn't get an "LT7" over 550 hp while still meeting café standards? a 359X lb car with a 550hp engine would hit that 6.46 lbs/hp mark that the markings on the car imply

also, is there a reason chevy couldn't expand the LGX architecture in to a DOHC V8? I apologize if that's dumb, but that LGX is an impressive engine, and giving it a few extra cylinders would put it at about 440hp from a 4.8L by a linear progression, put some boost behind it and youre looking at some serious power with just a little boost.

They could be testing an automatic and manual version of the ZL1. Doesn't necessarily mean they are testing two completely different cars.

I just don't see how they could put the power down effectively with these relatively narrow rear tires if in fact this is the force induction hp car...just saying...

Would the narrow tires make sense on the track car?

Remember. Lighter car. Narrower tires could be all that's required to hit the benchmarks they laid out.
I still say we'll see a z/28 and a 1LE in 2017.
Just in time for me to pay off my 2015 1LE and move on up.

The one without the hashmarks would be the z/28 in a NA format. The other one without the hashmarks is the FI one.

Or maybe we're all just guessing.
