That would be cool if they brought that back too. And this is more likely than anything else.

Only reason I am saying this is because they kept pairing these cars with the 3rd gens in photos. Something small but worth noting.

Don Yenko was a Chevy dealer that knew how to work the ordering process for cars back in a little period of time i like to refer to as "the day".
They would order Camaros with specific codes referred to as Central Office Production Orders or COPO. These order codes were used to get around some of Chevrolet's unwillingness to offer certain options in certain cars.
It's how he was able to get those sexy aluminum ZL1 big blocks into Camaros and Novas.
I've seen Yenko Vettes and Vegas too.
Think of Yenko as the Lingenfelter of his time. He took a good car and made it better.

So the Yenko name really wasn't a Chevy thing. And there's little to no chance of it ever coming back around as a factory named option package.
But there are dealers out there that are still offering their dealer packages of upgrades you can order (for a fee of course).
You can find Gen5 COPO camaros on ebay and such once in a while. Outrageous prices for the most part.
Wow, that went a little long winded.

IROC died in 07, I don't think Chevy would want to be associated with a non-existent racing series.
The other issue would be it recalls a time in which (as much as it pains me to say this) most american cars were poorly built, and had little real performance.

The L98 equipped IROCs had good performance for that era---what else anywhere near that price range would have been competitive?

As far as the actual build quality goes yes, compared to today it was terrible. It seems when plastics were new no one had any idea on how to implement them in automobiles and cars from that time in the sub-20k price range sure seem cheap as hell compared to the cars of today.

may just be a landing pad for a badge with nothing on it yet.

the IROC racing series is dead, so that actually makes it less likely than anything else.

yea I mean whats the point of putting the badge on and then covering it. just leave it off and not have to worry about some tape flying off and giving things away....even though I kind of wish that was the case

Can't wait to see one in person, regardless whether it is a ZL1 or Z/28. Glad to see Chevy stepping up their game.

You can get light weight if you use light weight, expensive more exclusive parts for a Z/28. However with the new Z/28 I have a feeling it will lose it's "/" and just be called the Z28 because it won't be 100% a track car like the 5th gen.

Why won't it be? Because it won't be completely stripped out like the 5th gen was.
