Which is why I mentioned size, they are similar there.

S10 pickups with the 2.2/5-speed and 2wd returned good fuel economy. I remember looking at a brand new one in about 2002. $8900. Those were the days!

I was comparing 4.3 4wd to 4.3 4wd for mpg, different bodies both 2000s.

Also why I brought up his Datsun without pointing to a comparison that it performs the same as a 28 year newer pickup. Apple to oranges very much, like the newer 'Nox CUV and the gen1.5 V6 truck Blazer being same in size.

The 'Nox-Malibu argument in the other thread is a closer comparison, but still silly. People that do a lot of highway miles without moving lots of stuff should pick the car for aerodynamics. But compacts beat mid-size mpg, if it were my choice, I'd put the Malibu name on an entry there. I just don't want into that thread, their product development plate has to be full.
