You and Duramacr1 are on top of this one.

Yeah I get that’s it’s not the same as NA. I was just sharing data.

Amen! I wouldn’t be running around on the street with no filter. It’s a good line to draw.

Good points. If this resulted in a viable option, swapping the filter and tune before leaving the track wouldn’t take much time.

I just ordered one, and will dyno test it back to back vs the air filter on my Big Gulp this spring too. Just waiting for my CNC ported Whipple to come back…

bell mouth has been around. i've seen it on some na cars the past couple of years. granted they are no maf race cars with hi rams and no other induction.
This is how I feel about it as well. My own OTR setup gained 2.5mph on my bolt on car with a hi ram with the bellmouth on the end of the OTR tube. It was also a design that everyone said wouldn’t work. Still has a MAF as well.

Any update on this for those who ran it? Any improvements? I see pray had a few back in stock on FB recently and I was researching this post was the first I seen. So just curious.

I saw about 15-20 WHP back when I was making low 900’s WHP. Which sounds good, but it really raises heck with your MAF scale. Plus it deletes your air filter…the one time I thought about running it at the track, I had a blower belt snap and launch a ton of debris everywhere (including the hood liner!). If I had run the Pray bell mouth all the debris would have all been sucked into my motor, so I was really glad I kept the air filter on.

Great point made! That would've really sucked to get debris into the motor. It seems like until he can up up with a small filter to cover the bell mouth its not worth it.

Thanks for responding.

No problem! The belt really wrecked some havoc for sure. For your enjoyment lol:

Yep! Broke off the hard shell connector for the crank position sensor, wrecked the other two belts, sheared off the thermostat nipple (billet now lol), sprayed coolant everywhere, etc. I thoroughly cleaned out the entire engine compartment, yet 18 months later I will still find the occasional piece of belt in weird spots.

I wonder what what the numbers would be if you just took the air filer off without any bell mouth? I know in the past back in the early 90’s we would take the air cleaner off while at the track for a small gain. Do you think adding the bell mouth makes that much difference? Not knocking on any product just posing the question. I would think you would still get most of your gains by just removing the filter.

I think it would destroy your MAF scaling even worse than the bellmouth does… the air filter helps to straighten the airflow across the sensor, giving you repeatable results. Even the bellmouth does to some extent too since it helps direct air into the tube, but even that requires some rescaling. Nothing on the end will be a mess, is my guess.
