Radar Mount Under $50 including Mirror Tap Power!

Fellow Camaro owners, I needed a way to power and mount a radar detector for my wife's 2024 Camaro 3LT convertible. So here is a cheap radar detector mount that can be fabbed very cheaply compared to buying one made to fit the car. I purchased a new generic radar mount from Amazon that was perfect for my application (see link below). I also purchased a mirror power tap from Blendmount that is made just for the Camaros and C8 Corvetts.

Purchased: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LE315CS...roduct_details

It comes with an extra ball, that has a 6mm stud! You remove the outer cover behind the rearview mirror and drill a 6mm hole in either side of the bottom clear area. Make sure you drill where you will have room for a nut on the inside. You will also need to shorten the length of the stud to around 3/8 depending on the thickness of the nut and washer. Install the mirror power tap, put the rearview mirror cap back on then connect the adjustable arms, DONE.Attachment 1150572

Now that's slick. Great idea. May do this in the wife's Tahoe - same mirror mount.

I installed mine tonight using the same components as listed. Very clean and I couldn't be happier with it. Just to clarify, the mount comes with a 1/4-20 ball and stud. You will need a 1/4-20 nut and a washer, I used a nylock so it wouldn't loosen up.

I noticed the OP fed the wire higher up, I just notched the corner of the cover piece slightly so the wire had a void to exit. Here are some pics.

To anyone doing this install check your ball stud, mine did come with a 6mm stud because I had to stop at the hardware store to get a 6mm nut and drilled a letter B hole 0.238 diameter. I was strange because the locking hardware threads were English.

Is there room to put the ball on the front of the cover and not the bottom so it's even higher up and forward of the mirror?

Yes i think you would have enough room to do it on that part of it as well. As long as its on the driver side like it is on the bottom. The plug inside the housing takes up all the space on the passenger side of the cover.

That's what I figured, thanks!

I took some quick measurements there would be very little if any clearance. With all the wires in there I did not want to chance it.
