Texas Metal Camaro on sale

This isn’t a post to try and sell anything, I’m just putting this up for some fun discussion, that’s why I didn’t put it in classifieds…..

If you’ve ever watched the show “Texas Metal” shadowing the custom fabrication/hot rod shop Ekstensive Metal in Texas, owned by a guy named Bill Carlton, on the Velocity/Motor Trend network you might have seen the episodes where they built this.

It’s a 2018 Camaro ZL1. The guy who initially bought it brought a brand new ZL1 literally right from the dealer with the window sticker still attached and they chopped the crap out of it. “Tubed” the rear end for extra wide slicks and a crazy rear diff, bloody red interior all over, widened the rear quarter panels to fit the gargantuan rear tires on it, and all sorts of crazy engine mods. Oh yeah, full airbag suspension too.

https://www.facebook.com/share/3mDms...ibextid=79PoIi

Now of course it’s for sale at a used car dealer in Nebraska lol……

I never really cared for these kind of shows to be honest, I’m more of the “Chasing Classic Cars” with Wayne Carini kind of car guy. I just have to wonder how do people - Bill’s typical clientele shall we say - afford this stuff? He, his crew, and his clientele are all, uh, interesting shall we say lol

I live 25 miles from this dealer...and while it may appease SOME one....that thing is HIDEOUS in person!. That all red interior is just ungodly gross/WAAAAY too much of it.. That car looked much better BEFORE the build...not knocking the Texas Metal crew because they are SERIOUSLY talented, but that car is just yuk!.

Totally agree. It was sickening to see them tear this apart and cut and weld everything into what this became.

Ruined the lines that make this such a great looking car. And that tomato red interior. Looks like a gruesome murder scene.

Yes I agree, I should clarify I also think his crew is very talented and highly skilled. I just wonder how he finances his operation with such expensive builds that take a long time. His labor rate must be through the roof, I couldn’t really tell what his labor in hours and rate was on the work order.

OMG. The interior is awful. After five minutes riding in it I think I'd be puking.

The concept of dropping $100k in mods on a car and not driving it is so foreign to me.

The outside bodywork is definitely worse than OEM.

The interior in red isn't all that bad, but it looks like they missed a couple of spots when they set off the "red bomb." If you look carefully, you can still see a few bits of silver and/or black.

I remember the episode and a post about the show and build here. In my opinion they ruined the car but understand there are folks who like that. As I watched more episodes, I came to respect the shops work, mostly built pickup trucks, again not my thing but the work that goes into them is impressive. Now if I could afford to build a 69, it would be by Kindig-it.

Very true, the thing I like about them is they build anything if you got the money and want it your way, who wouldn’t? It’s like any other performance shop but they have a TV show.

Yeah Dave is more open to letting customers chose how they want to go. Many of his builds are pretty much straight restorations with minimal “restomod” modifications.

The fact that he actually did a complete nut and bolt restoration of a genuine GM Futureliner is amazing.

Bill has to be the “biggest” and wants to overdo everything. But that’s what his customers want and that’s why they go to him.
