I think there was some part of the subframe that was in direct contact with the top of the HHD making a solid sound channel. I wish I would have taken a picture, but I think it was toward the right, mid section on the top of the diff (the contact point).

There's a pic here somewhere of that. I remember seeing it. Search Hammerhead on this forum and you'll find it.

If your launching your M6 hard at the track the DSS 9" is the only way to go. Trust me I've tried them all except the ZL1.

Yeah these damn M6's are just brutal on the drivetrain. I went to the track for the first time this past week. Can just intuitively tell that the whole drive train is just taking a brutal ass whipping. And I was on stock tires.

I'm at 520hp on a mustang dyno. Stock clutch. Stock rear. I probably should not be taking it to the track until I get a drivetrain upgrade.

sorry for the late response here from DSS on the info but here is some of the latest updates from Hammerhead.

The new 12 bolt HammerHead housings and covers will be available soon. Since we first brought HammerHead to market in 2013, we have gone through 3 revisions to add more strength and add mount points for Corvette (C2/3/4/) Viper (gen 1/2) & LX Chrysler markets to the casting. We originally started this as a Corvette project right before the Camaro came out. We are finalizing a new rear covers that will have provisions for more applications and also feature preload bolts on the rear caps. We just started casting these latest housings in April in A206 Aluminum which is a military spec alloy and also what they use for Allison transmission cases and things like that. The A206 is 30% stronger than the T356 aluminum. And the HIP process we have used on some of our current castings would make it 20% stronger than that.

We do have Camaros at 1000+ HP now with our current castings but mainly street cars on street tires on the street. Add sticky tires and a sticky drag strip and you'll eventually go through ring and pinions and break stuff. These are heavy cars. It's science. We also have had some issues early on with a couple vendors setting up our differentials improperly which we now have under control with a proven vendor. In every case of noise or breakage, we have addressed with the customer to make things right.

With the strength revisions, the load bolts in the cover, the new aluminum, and the option of the HIP process to the aluminum, we are making this 12 bolt housing as strong as it can possibly be for all of our customers needing this application, which we feel will be good to 750HP while still being close to stock weight, and reasonably priced with a lot of different gear ratio options.

But looking forward for the mega HP crowd:

After all of our Corvette revisions are done this summer, our next version of HammerHead we are calling "Megalodon" and it will feature 250MM (9.84") ring and pinion capable of 1500 lbs/ft. torque CONTINUOUS, and have gear choices from 3.08 all the way up to 5 series. We will make Megalodon for 5th Gen Camaro, S550 Mustang, and LX Chrysler. We may cast in iron, but are also thinking about using the A206 aluminum. Iron is really strong but so damn heavy. That ZL1 setup is a pig. Here is a video of me talking about HammerHead and Megalodon from SEMA 2015 with the guys from Bangshift.

https://www.facebook.com/HammerHeadI...7843055235891/

Attached are a couple photos of the latest raw un-machined 12 bolt casting in A206 aluminum from the inside and bottom (cell phone photos from dad). Greg Lovell will be getting the first of these castings and covers. When I was home last year I took some photos of weighing a HammerHead, a stock diff and a ZL1 diff. Trying to find those since that's what this forum post started about. Maybe I can send those as a follow up.

The other photos are a stock 8.6 ring and pinion next to the 9.84" "Megalodon" R&P. And a 12 bolt Eaton True Trac vs. Megalodon (Ford 9 3/4") True Trac posi. A megalodon R&P. A few photos of Tray's chassis with HammerHead, and the Hot Rod HammerHead with Camaro, Viper & C4 mounts

For some history, the Megalodon which in the interest of disclosure is based on the 9 3/4" Ford is the diff that is in the 2011-present Ford F-150's which replaced the 8.8". It was also introduced in the Expedition and Navigator which have IRS (we started measuring there) It already has lots of gear ratios and posi units available (but we're mainly going to use TrueTrac). We like it because it's technology from this century. It can handle more torque than a Dana 60 and will run quietly on the street for many miles. This is why we're heading in this direction.

Ooooo, pretty!

I hammered on mine and it took the punishment well, although I did blow out an axle.

I do have to say that Hammerhead (and DSS) took very good care of me. I think I'm one of the ones who had an improperly setup (noisy) differential.

The new setup might be worth taking a hard look at. If it's quiet and handles tons of power, and light(er), might just have a winner here. We'll just have to see...

Anyone have new contact info for Hammerhead? I've tried both numbers on their site with no response.
