Black Exhaust Tips - Pics and Brand?
Hey guys,
I noticed that even the C8 has Black exhaust tips as an option. And both my Mercedes have black tips. I hate how our cars tips get so dirty so fast... and thought that black tips would help. And would also make blend in with the bottom black area of the car. Anyone change theirs yet? Not looking at changing the whole exhaust. And looking for similar sizing to stock. Thoughts?

I used CF MBRP tips for my car. Protip...anything that is painted/coated/plated may not have a long life span there, I use only 304/409 polished, etc etc

I bought the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Back exhaust and like you, don't particularly like Chrome tips so I had mine powder coated gloss black(2 years ago and look like new still) and love it! Did the same thing for my SilveradoTrailBoss tips.(had the Silverado tips done 4 years ago and they still look new.)

Other than ordering a set of Chinese made Ebay special black tips, you will likely have to look at an axleback exhaust, AWE has BY FAR the best looking black tips. They are 4.5" and fill out the rear valence perfectly, all other axlebacks and catbacks use 4" tips and they just don't look as good.

Yeah, when I ordered my exhaust, I went with the black tips as well. Easier to keep clean.

A lot of these exhausts are black outside but still stainless inside. It's the inside that is the issue as that is where all the Carbon Builds up.
I was thinking of just painting them with some tremclad as I like the current tips. But I'm not it will last. Maybe I can just cut them off and powder coat them and then reconnect them. |

I may try that route first and I know a couple local solid exhaust shops I'd trust to replace the tips...

I have a brand new set of AWE black tips in the box I’ll let go cheap if anyone wants them. I have the axel back exhaust and they sent me both the chrome and black tips and I actually prefer the chrome ones even though I’m not a chrome fan. If anyone wants pics I can send them. Here’s a pic with them installed and then removed.

If you see a pair of tips that you like, let me know and I can cerakote them just about any color for you.
I've done a good job at matching the matte black of the wrap for others. |
